EXPLORING THE ART OF JAPANESE CUISINE

What is Mentsuyu?

READ MORE めんつゆトップ 美味しいめんつゆレシピも|だし・かつお節のヤマキ (yamaki.co.jp)

Mentsuyu is a Japanese readymade soup base in a bottle. It’s made from sake, mirin, soy sauce, kombu (seaweed), and katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes). It’s a flavorful sauce or broth used in various Japanese dishes, both hot and cold noodles included, thanks to its rich umami flavor from dashi.

What is Crabstick?
Crabstick is imitation crab made from real fish meat, not crab meat though. It’s usually made from surimi, or white fish flesh like Alaskan Pollock. Bone’s are removed and the flesh is mashed into a paste. Then, they mix it with flavors, starch, sugar, and salt. It’s shaped into rectangles, dyed to look like crab meat, and cooked. It’s ready to eat, high in protein and low in calories.
